UCLA COSMOS
Although there was a bit of uncertainty walking in, as this year was the first COSMOS was hosted at UCLA as well as the first where I stayed away from home for an extended period of time for a summer program, I had a blast and met lots of people who shared my interests. I studied with Cluster 4: "High Success: Hydrogen is the Green Headway to Sustainability, Carbon Capture, and Energy-Transition" with Dr. Manousiouthakis. It was a packed summer, filled with lots of learning and new experiences, including staying in a UCLA dorm and having a roommate. During the program, we examined the relationships between aquatic variables and determined the factors that impact the nutrient load in an ecosystem. We also developed a sustainability app calculator that uses AI to assign a sustainability index score to different companies. I recommend the program to students that are interested in environmental sustainability.
